Household plan: online design guide (page two)
Recommendations on what to communicate in page two of the online design guide
ALPHA
Page two: locate the household and personalise the information
Aim: move from shared explanation to household-specific relevance, so residents can see how the plan applies to their home and tenure.
What page two should communicate
Page two should mark the shift from general context to information that relates directly to a specific home.
It should make clear that different homes in the area require different approaches to clean heating and explain how the council has accounted for that variation.
The page should explain that properties across the area have been grouped based on building type, street layout and available space, in order to explore which clean heating approaches may be most appropriate in different situations. This makes clear that clean heating is not being presented as a one-size-fits-all solution and reflects the diversity of housing in the area.
The page should then invite residents to enter their postcode and indicate whether they own or rent their home.
It should clearly explain what this information will be used for. This includes tailoring the next stage of guidance to show: which clean heating options are being explored for homes like theirs; who they might expect to hear from; and what advice, funding or support could be available.
It should set clear expectations about how this information is used. It should reassure residents that entering their details does not register them for a scheme, does not commit them to any action and does not trigger additional contact.
The purpose of this page: help residents locate themselves within the plan before encountering more detailed information. It ensures households understand why information will differ between properties and builds confidence that guidance is being tailored deliberately.
Page breakdown
The section below illustrates how page two communicates this in practice.
1
How tailoring works
It should communicate that homes across the area differ and that the council has grouped properties using practical characteristics such as building type, street layout and available space to explore suitable approaches.
2
What residents will receive
It should make clear what tailored information will be shown after details are entered. This includes:
- the clean heating options being explored for homes like theirs
- who they might expect to hear from
- what advice, funding or support may be available
This helps residents understand the value of completing the step.
3
Invitation to enter details
It should invite residents to enter their postcode and select their tenure. It should reassure residents that:
- the information is used to show relevant guidance
- it does not register them for a scheme
- it does not trigger additional contact|
